How Life/Career Coaching Works
Lynn provides Life/Career Coaching to help adults and millennials develop and implement strategies to reach their personally identified goals of enhanced performance and personal satisfaction.
Life and Career Coaching works when there are two factors present:
1) You are willing to make changes in your personal life and/or career, and
2) There is a gap between where you are now and where you want to be.
Through an interactive and conversational process, Lynn will help you first define and then set up a plan of action to pursue your desired strategies and solutions. Coaching is designed to move you towards the satisfying attainment of your personal and professional goals. Coaching is “client-centered”– you will be in charge of developing and achieving your stated goals, with Lynn’s support, questions, suggestions and guidance.
How Life/Career Coaching works: The coaching contract is based on a 45 minute phone, skype or in-person session, offered optimally twice per month.
During the coaching conversation, you will develop a set of short and long term goals that are important to you. You can use coaching sessions to articulate your vision for a satisfying, meaningful life and/or career. You will end each session with a number of action items to move you forward. To help you stay in motion you can be accountable to Lynn as your coach, to support your progress. Note: Career coaching does not include testing or job hunting skills (resume writing, interviewing techniques.) Instead, career coaching focuses on professional topics to help you develop your vision, mission, purpose and specific goals to further your career.
Life coaching may include topics of: relationship skill-building, self-care, personal projects, taking your life to a better level, moving forward on a path of positivity, functionality, hope, and well-being. We will look at your life path, vision for the future, and also focus on daily, strategic actions and plans.
What happens in a coaching call:
From Lynn: At the start of each call, we will check in on your wins, challenges and next steps. We will use our time to help you strategize further actions and process any obstacles you encounter as you move forward. While life and career coaching can include brief email support, between sessions, for accountability on your action steps, email is not useful for long topic discussion or to set new goals. Instead, I will bookmark these types of queries to use as further topics in our upcoming coaching sessions.
Coaching is a confidential, pro-active, strategic dialogue to help you define and achieve your personal, professional, health and life goals, be more successful, find balance and stay centered as you develop skills and achieve more satisfaction.
Most life and career coaching goals require 6-9 months of coaching to accomplish or to see progress. You can keep working with me as long as coaching is valuable for you; you can also terminate coaching with only a verbal or email notification if or when it is not useful. Once we have ended, you can follow up or contact me to discuss resuming coaching with a new set of goals, or on an as-needed basis.
However, if you need to cancel an already scheduled session, I will need 48 hours notice by email or phone (notice must be given during working days, Mon-Fri) in order to not charge for a missed session.

More about Coaching…
As a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C) and a Master Certified Coach (MCC) certified through the International Coaching Federation, I adhere to both my social work licensure and my coaching certification in regards to confidentiality. I will only release information with your written permission, or if I am required to do so by a court order.
As a psychotherapist, I adhere to reporting laws for safety. These situations rarely occur in coaching practices, but if such a situation does occur, I will make every effort to discuss it with you before taking any action.
Although, during the course of your coaching, you may discuss your future plans, business affairs, personal information, and other private information, I will not voluntarily communicate your information to a third party.
Coaching versus Psychotherapy
There are some similarities between coaching and psychotherapy, but I do not combine psychotherapy with coaching. I see these as separate roles for the therapist and coach and as such, separate services and conversations. Although both coaching and psychotherapy use knowledge of human behavior, motivation, behavioral change, and interactive counseling techniques, there are major differences in the goals, focus, and level of professional responsibility in each. In some situations, I may recommend that you enter psychotherapy (with another psychotherapist or counselor) as a condition of continuing with coaching.
Coaching is a professional relationship and I will maintain professional boundaries during and after your work together. Considerable experience shows that when boundaries blur, the hard-won benefits gained from the coaching relationship are endangered. I follow all the normal and expected guidelines of the ICF Code of Ethics. Please also review the Informed Consent Page here, to see additional policies.
